An School Teacher in a Difficult Economy
My younger brother is a teacher at an elementary school in northern California and there have been some serious budget cuts in recent years. Thankfully, he still has his job however for the last three years every one of the teachers and staff that work at his school have received layoff notices before the summer break and everyone was kind of in limbo during the summer holding out to see if the school would be funded and stay open. It isn’t easy to go through the whole summer break being unsure of if you will have a job in September .
Up to this point he has been fortunate and he has been brought back each time. Despite the fact that his occupation is uncertain throughout the summer he is very committed to his students and spends some of his time through the entire summer looking into 4th grade science projects that he will be able to work on with his students. Cash has been tight though and he hasn’t received a pay increase in several years. He has a timeshare unit in Orlando but has been attempting to find someone to sell it to because he is having trouble keeping up with the maintenance charges. He quickly learned that selling a timeshare will not be easy so that he’s been investigating the possibility of a timeshare donation to charity in order to get rid of the unit so he won’t have to spend money on the month to month maintenance fees from now on.
When he first started researching selling is timeshare he believed that it could be challenging due to the bad economic climate and the depressed housing market but it wasn’t long before he realized that selling a timeshare will be tough even under the best circumstances because there are many more people selling than there are people buying. Which is why he started thinking that a donation it could be the only real option.
Money has been so tight that he is now having trouble keeping up with other expenses and the next one he may need to let go is his burglar alarm system monitoring. He is paying about $30 each month for the monitoring service so he has been looking for ways to eliminate that particular bill but still have a little bit of sort of home security. He has considered options such as home security Internet monitoring and security alarm auto dialers so that he would be able to monitor his own home security system. In essence he would become his own monitoring company. He would have the ability to check up on his home while he is away via the internet and if there is a break in a phone call could be made to his mobile phone, or any other phone of his choice automatically.
I really wish I could help him but times have been difficult for me as well and we’re just trying to get through this. I’ve worked for many years as a real estate agent and when the housing market fell into the toilet my income took a large hit. Things are starting to change a bit now though because prices are so low that it is an good time to purchase and a lot of people are starting to purchase properties once again. Is in fact reduced on a monthly basis today to pay a home loan than it is to pay rent so buying a home really makes sence. Things seem to be getting better so my brother and I will be hopeful and we are hoping things will turn out alright.
