A Summer Trip to Historic Williamsburg Virginia
In early summer last year we went on a family trip to the state of Virginia to visit Williamsburg Virginia. We stayed at a Williamsburg Plantation timeshare and the accommodations were quite good. I don’t really have any interest in buying a timeshare but we were actually able to rent one from a person who was not able to make use of their allotted time and by renting their unit we were able to save a great deal of cash over the cost of only booking a hotel for a week.
Colonial Williamsburg is a wonderful destination for a visit, there is something there that everyone will find interesting. You can learn a great deal about the way life was back in the 18th century. How individuals lived, different trades they practiced, the outfits they wore and even how they spoke. There are actors that stroll around the town in period clothing, telling stories about how things were during those times. There is a great deal of traditional architecture and anyone interested in history could spend a great deal of time in this place.
As well as each of the historical points of interest there are a number of other things to do as well. There is Busch Gardens which has more than 50 rides and attractions and is home to the Griffin which is the tallest floorless dive roller coaster in the world. There’s also a big kids area called Sesame Street Forest which includes rides for the children in addition to a big water area for the kids to play in. If water is your thing Williamsburg also has Water Country USA which has water slides, shopping and dining establishments. It is a cool area with a 1950s and 60s surf theme.
After spending several days in the immediate area of Williamsburg we thought it would be fun to go out to the coast and spend some time at the beach. Sadly our quiet trip to the beach was anything but peaceful. There are prizes a little bit of environmental groups staging some type of demonstration, I believe it was regarding dumping untreated water directly into the ocean. I don’t mind people protesting and I could even get behind their particular cause but in addition to being pretty noisy they also wouldn’t let us be. I had five different people attempt to get me to sign exactly the same petition to get the government to make changes to avoid further polluting of the ocean. I’m not really certain they were protesting in opposition to a particular company or the government or precisely what but whomever they were protesting against is probably going to need to employ a team of PR firms to help them repair their reputation.
