A School Teacher Struggling in Difficult Economic Times
My brother is an elementary school teacher in northern California and they have seen some significant budget cuts in the last few years. Luckily, he still has his job but for the last 3 years all of the teachers and staff at his school have received layoff notices before summer vacation and everyone was kind of in limbo through the entire summer holding out to find out if the school would be funded and stay open. It isn’t easy going through the entire summer break not knowing if you will have a job to come back to one summer vacation is over or not.
Up to this point he’s been lucky and he has been able to return each time. Despite the fact that his job is uncertain through the entire summer time he is very committed to his students and spends a portion of his time through the entire summer looking into 4th grade science projects that he will be able to work on with his class. Cash has been tight though and he has not received a pay increase in several years. He has a timeshare in Orlando but he has been trying to find someone to sell it to because he can’t keep up with the maintenance costs. He quickly realized that selling a timeshare will be quite difficult so he has been looking into the option of a timeshare donation to charity so that he can get rid of the unit so he won’t have to pay the monthly maintenance fees from now on.
When he first started investigating selling is timeshare he assumed that it could possibly be challenging as a result of bad economic climate and the depressed housing market but it wasn’t long before he realized that selling a timeshare will be difficult even under the best circumstances because there will be many more sellers than there are buyers. Which is why he started thinking that a donation it may be the only real option.
Money owns been extremenly tight and he is even having problems keeping up with some other bills and the next one he may have to let go is his burglar alarm system monitoring. He is paying about $27 per month for the service so he’s been looking for ways to eliminate that bill but still maintain some sort of home security. He has considered options enjoy home security Internet monitoring and security alarm auto dialers so that he could monitor his own alarm system. Essentially he would act as his own monitoring company. He would be able to check in on his home while he is away by way of the internet and in case there is a break in a phone call could be placed to his cellular phone, or any other phone of his choice on auto-pilot.
I wish I could help my brother but times have been tough for me as well and we are just trying to get through the tough times. I have worked for quite a few years as a real estate agent and when the housing market went into the toilet my cash flow took a huge hit. Things are beginning to change a bit now though because prices are so low that it’s an good time to buy and a great deal of people are starting to buy houses again. It’s actually cheaper on a regular basis right now to pay a mortgage than it is to pay rent so purchasing a property really makes sence. Things seem to be getting better so my brother and I are hopeful and we are hoping for the best.
